We’re looking for Trustees!

Do you believe that women deserve better life chances? Do you want to help other women succeed? Do you want to give something back? Then why not join The WayfinderWoman Trust as a Trustee?

Based in Eastbourne, this female run organisation is one of the leading charities in Sussex supporting women. We are small but with large ambitions to nurture marginalised women to stand tall, stand proud, shine brightly and confidently transform their lives.  To date we have helped over 1,000 women and in June 2021 we were one of only three East Sussex organisations to receive the Queens Award for Voluntary Service.

We support women of working age with free online and face to face workshops, coaching and through our part-time drop-in advice and information centre in central Eastbourne: the Hub.  The Hub, staffed by volunteers, provides a safe space for women and is renowned for its supportive environment.  All our support is based on feminist principles and human rights.

We rely on grants, donations and pro bono support from our friendly professionals to run our services.  We have an active fundraising group of volunteers who engage in a wide range of fun activities and have social events to build friendships.

We are entirely voluntary run, entering an exciting phase of development to help expand our reach and are seeking trustees to help achieve our aims.

Some of our long-standing trustees will be standing down in 12 months and so we also need to plan for succession.  We are seeking trustees with a particular interest and/or experience in any of the following:

  • Finance or book keeping with a view to taking over the role of Treasurer
  • Administration, with a view to taking over the role of Secretary
  • Social media, marketing and promotion
  • Fundraising and bid writing
  • Equality and diversity, BAME communities
  • HR and oversight of volunteers
  • Project management

Do you have any of these specific skills and experience that you could bring to a Charity’s Board? If the answer is yes, you could make a great contribution as a Trustee.  We are particularly keen to hear from women from diverse ethnic backgrounds and if you’ve had to fight your own battles, or helped others fight theirs then we’d love to hear from you too.

Trustees are expected to attend meetings at the Hub or virtually, five – six times a year in the evenings, usually 6.30 – 8.30pm and our AGM.

Trustees are also expected to participate in some email-based discussions between meetings.  There are opportunities to join in with specific projects and we also have a lively WhatsApp group to keep people in touch with what’s happening.  Terms are for 3 years with an option to renew for a second term.  Support will be available from current trustees, along with a buddy system, and you will have a full induction.

If you don’t want to become a full Trustee then get in touch to find out how else you can get involved.

Take a look at our website www.wayfinderwoman.com to see the range of things we do.   To find out more about how you can become part of our unique support community, email volunteering@wayfinderwoman.com your CV and our Chair will get in touch with you for a chat.
